Global automotive giant Stellantis has named Antonio Filosa, its Chief Operating Officer for North America, as the company’s new Chief Executive Officer, according to F.M.I.E Sources. The announcement, made on Wednesday, brings months of executive uncertainty to a close after the sudden resignation of former CEO Carlos Tavares in December 2024.

Filosa, who has been with Stellantis and its predecessor companies for over 25 years, will officially assume CEO responsibilities starting June 23, 2025. Stellantis, which owns major global brands such as Jeep, Dodge, Fiat, Chrysler, and Peugeot, confirmed that an extraordinary shareholder meeting will be held soon to elect Filosa to the board as an executive director.

The leadership transition comes at a challenging time for Stellantis, which has faced declining profits, shrinking sales, and operational headwinds—particularly in the U.S. market. Tavares’ departure, described as abrupt, followed mounting pressure over the company’s financial performance and strategic direction.

In a public statement reported by F.M.I.E Sources, Filosa expressed gratitude and optimism:

“It is my great honor to be named the CEO of this fantastic Company,” he said. “We are at a pivotal time for our industry, and I am committed to leading Stellantis into its next era of growth and innovation.”

Before taking the reins in North America as COO in October 2024, Filosa also served as CEO of the Jeep brand, overseeing critical product rollouts and expanding the company’s footprint in global markets.

The leadership shake-up underscores Stellantis’ renewed focus on stabilizing its performance and navigating a rapidly evolving automotive landscape, including the shift to electric vehicles, global supply chain challenges, and intensifying competition in North America.

More details about strategic plans under Filosa’s leadership are expected to be unveiled at the upcoming shareholder meeting.
